Garristown Community Council

Garristown the Jewel in North County Dublins Treasure Chest

Garristown is an attractive village with a distinct rural ambience located in the North-West of County Dublin. It is one of a network of rural villages in North Fingal that function as local centres servicing the agricultural hinterland of this part of the county. The Community Council had the foresight to acquire the former Garristown VEC School in 1987and renovate it for use as a Community Centre. The Community Council facilitates its use principally for Community Groups, but also Commercial Groups, raises funds and maintains the Centre in first class condition. The Council meets in the community centre on the second Thursday of each month at 21.00hrs and welcomes involvement from anyone in the community. The Community Council is run and managed by a committee of volunteers who are elected at their AGM (click Co. Co. Committee button on left)

Garristown Gets its Defibrillator

Garristown Community Council, GFC, Gun Club, Historical Society and the ICA have funded the purchase of a Primedic Defibrillator that can be used to resuscitate a heart beat in the case of sudden cardiac arrest. The device performs an automatic ECG analysis within 12 seconds and decides whether a Defibrillation (electric pulse) is necessary which is administered by pressing a button when instructed by the equipment.

The ideal place to locate the equipment would be on an external wall so that access time is minimised. However we have not been able to find a secure vandal free location. Hence it has been located in the Community Centre on a temporary basis, to the left of the main hall door.

To make the unit operational from Friday 8th June, 2 local people (both nurses) have kindly offered to make themselves available to operate the equipment in the event of an emergency. They will have keys to the Community Centre and their mobile numbers will be posted onto the Garristown Community Centre Website and displayed at the Centre.

Approximately 15 people have been trained in its use but these will receive a refresher course plus CPR training before they will be put on the list of trained users.
In the event of an emergency time is of the essence as each minute that passes following cardiac arrest reduces the persons chance of surviving by 7% - 10%!!!
